Biography

Currently based in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Cassidy Shiflett is an active low brass performer and instructor committed to spreading musical enjoyment to audiences and students alike.

Dr. Shiflett's earned degrees include a B.A. in Trombone Performance from the University of North Alabama, a Master of Music in Brass Performance from the University of Akron, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance at the University of Memphis.

Dr. Shiflett is currently freelancing in the mid-South area as a chamber, solo, and ensemble musician. Previously, he was the trombonist for Mississippi State Faculty Brass Trio/Quintet, as well as the graduate brass quintets at the University of Memphis and University of Akron, respectively. He has performed regionally as a pit musician for musicals, operas, and ballet. As a soloist, he was the brass division winner of the 2024 Delta Symphony Young Artist Competition and winner of the 2023 University of Akron Concerto Competition, in addition to performing many solo recitals.

While Dr. Shiflett maintains an active performance schedule, he is equally passionate about teaching in different settings and genres. Before being named lecturer of trombone at Mississippi State in 2025, he worked with students ranging from beginner through collegiate in his private studio and through various lesson academies. He was formerly the trombone studio/brass quintet graduate assistant at the University of Memphis. Prior to that, he served as the trombone graduate assistant at the University of Akron. Other recent teaching achievements include: 2025 Music City Drum and Bugle Corps brass staff, 2025 & 2026 Prizm Teaching Artist through the Journey Summer Music Program, 2024 Summer at the Scheidt Music Camp, 2023 Prizm All-West Clinic, 2023 University of Memphis All-West Clinic, 2023 University of Akron Honors Brass event, and the trombone faculty member for the 2022 and 2023 University of Akron Summer Brass Camps. Additionally, he has been a staff instructor at many high school band camps across three states over the past eight years.
